Brakes! Where are the brakes!

So Skeeve and I went on the new Star Tours last night.

I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is our favorite Paul Reubens voiced droid pilot has been decommissioned.

The good news is the new pilot is C3PO...

I am totally ok with this.

I have to be in class in about two hours, so here's a picture of me after going on Grizzly Bear Rapids.

Who you callin' a rat?

I just found a reference to hedgehogs in Macbeth.  Thanks a whole lot, Shakespeare.  Now Timmy won't shut up about it.

"Thrice, and once the hedgepig whined." 4.1.2

How do you like that, Dad?  Apparently even the witches knew that Tobe ain't no rat.

That being said, I am still slightly nervous about reading The Scottish Play so close to Halloween.  This is what happens to you when your mother has spent years performing and judging Shakespeare.  You grow up with theatre superstition and you're not allowed to say "The M-word".

Because this is what happens if you do

So much excite!

I wish I could get away with that line of reasoning.

So!  I have news.  Skeeve is coming to visit for ten days!  YAAAAAAAAAY!  Of course I still have to pull off another English midterm while she's here, but who gives a damn?  Skeeve is coming and we will do ALL THE THINGS!

I am so excited.  Look forward to happy posts :D

Baby, you're almost as foxy as Francis Marion...

Presidential Pickup Lines.  Great website or greatest website ever?

Kitchen remodel update:  We had termites in the attic.  Richard sprayed insecticide all over.  I can't step out of my room without getting dizzy and lightheaded.  I can only hope that the fumes will have dissipated by tomorrow evening.

Someone help me...

Othello loved Desi like Adonis loved Venus...

Have I mentioned that it's really hard to study with the Othello rap stuck in your head?

I am killing Shakespeare

As an English major, I must take either Shakespeare or Chaucer in order to graduate.  I don’t mind this at all.  But when my professor asked us to “modernize” a scene from As You Like It (to prove that we understand the text) I just about died.

You...you want me to what?  How do I translate something that’s already perfect?  I see what you’re getting at here, madam, but there’s no way I can possibly translate Shakespeare into “modern” English and at the same time preserve the original meaning of the text.  I mean, how do you translate a triple pun?  How???

Also, English majors, you should know the difference between verse and prose by now.  Just sayin’.  Just because it doesn’t rhyme doesn’t mean it’s prose…
